Partnership with Berlin Strengthens Jakarta's Steps towards the Top 50 Global Cities

Jakarta City Council Commission A Vice Chairwoman, Alia Noorayu Laksono, welcomed the bilateral meeting between Jakarta Governor, Pramono Anung, and Berlin Governing Mayor, Kai Wegner, at Rotes Rathaus, Berlin last Monday.

International cooperation is ideal

According to her, the Jakarta government's step to strengthen collaboration with Berlin to realize sustainable urban mobility is a right decision.

"International cooperation is ideal, even important, as Jakarta has become a special region equivalent to the capital city. Our benchmark must be high. It is impossible for us to focus only on domestic cooperation," she expressed, Thursday (11/27).

Jakarta and Berlin Strengthen Collaboration to Achieve Sustainable Mobility

She added, Jakarta needs to learn a lot from other global cities in a bid to understand the standards of a modern city, thus the ambition to enter the top 50 global cities by 2030 can be realized.

Further, the implementation of the global city concept in Jakarta still needs to be optimized. However, the current development direction of Jakarta is already heading towards achieving that target.

"So, cooperation with a more developed country or city is a good step as long as it doesn't stop at mere ceremonial signing. There must be tangible implementation that benefits the residents," she explained.

Previously, Pramono met with the Berlin Governing Mayor to strengthen the strategic partnership focused on governance, particularly smart governance and civic engagement. Then, sustainable mobility through the integration of public transportation and the TOD concept, as well as the development of the creative economy through the Jakarta Future City Hub.

This meeting is part of an effort to improve the quality of public services, create a city that is more citizen-friendly, and support Jakarta's goal of ranking among the Top 50 Global Cities by 2030.
