Jakarta Improves Preparedness for Extreme Weather Anticipation

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has on standby personnel and equipment to anticipate potential extreme weather that is expected to occur in Jakarta in the coming period.

We can minimize the risks and impacts caused

Jakarta BPBD Executing Unit Head, Isnawa Adji said, all levels have been asked to increase vigilance and preparedness in facing potential hydrometeorological disasters, such as floods, strong winds, and falling trees.

According to him, Jakarta BPBD together with related regional devices have prepared anticipatory measures. The personnel are on standby in the field to support emergency handling with evacuation equipment and other supporting facilities.

BPBD Strengthens Community Readiness for Extreme Weather

He explained, Jakarta has approximately 30,000 RTs that need to be protected, so mitigation and preparedness efforts must be conducted comprehensively.

"The agency has also deployed around 1,200 pump units spread across pump houses and flood control posts, as well as portable pumps to accelerate the drainage of floodwaters at vulnerable points," he explained, Tuesday (12/2).

He said that the BPBD urges residents to remain vigilant for the potential of moderate to heavy rain which may be accompanied by lightning/thunder and strong winds.

Aside that, residents are expected to actively monitor official information from BMKG and the official channels of Jakarta government, and to promptly report emergency incidents through Jakarta Siaga Call Center 112.

BPBD continues to encourage residents to increase vigilance, prepare disaster emergency bags, maintain the cleanliness of water channels in the surrounding environment, and ensure that electrical installations remain safe.

"Collaboration between the government, community, and the business sector is very important in facing this rainy season. With joint preparedness, we can minimize the risks and impacts caused," he stated.
