Foodstuff at Traditional Markets in East Jakarta Supervised

East Jakarta Government conducted foodstuffs supervision at five traditional markets to prevent the circulation of food ingredients containing dangerous chemicals.

No hazardous chemical substances

East Jakarta Head of Food Security, Maritime and Agriculture Sub-agency, Taufik Yulianto said the supervision was held at Enjo Market, Pulo Gadung Market, Cakung Market, Ujung Menteng Market, and Cipinang Muara Market.

Foodstuff Supervision Held at Six Traditional Markets in East Jakarta

"The samples taken consisted of agricultural and livestock commodities, including vegetables, fruit, rice, chicken and beef," he said, Wednesday (12/10).

He explained that the types of tests conducted included pesticide residues, formalin, chlorine, and ethanol. The number of samples taken per location was 11 agricultural products and two livestock products.

"The total samples from the five markets reached 61 samples, consisting of 51 agricultural products and 10 livestock products," he added.

During the activity, joint personnel were also involved. Those are sub-agency, Satpol PP, PPKUKM Sub-agency, Economy Division, urban village and district apparatuses, as well as police/army.

"The supervision is intensified to ensure the food safety ahead of Christmas and New Year,* he continued.

Meanwhile, Acting Head Section of Fishery of the sub-agency, Meida Simare Mare admitted based on the results of laboratory tests, all samples were declared safe.

"No hazardous chemical substances were found," he admitted.
