Groundbreaking Penataan Bawah Tol Akses Tanjung Priok

North Jakarta-Pelindo Green Up Tanjung Priok Toll Underpass

North Jakarta Government together with PT Pelabuhan Indonesia (Pelindo) held a groundbreaking event for the redevelopment of area beneath the Tanjung Priok Access Toll Road on Jalan Raya Sulawesi, RW 04, Tanjung Priok Urban Village, Tanjung Priok Sub-district.

"An area that was once less aesthetic will be turned green with plants and vertical gardens,"

North Jakarta Deputy Mayor Fredy Setiawan said the project serves as an initial step to revitalize the previously neglected and disorganized area beneath the toll road.

Jakarta Vows to Strengthen Environmental Protection and Climate Resilience

"This is the beginning of transforming the area under the Tanjung Priok Access Toll Road. An area that was once less aesthetic will be turned green with plants and vertical gardens to make it more orderly, comfortable, and useful for residents," he stated on Friday (12/19).

Fredy explained that the program aligns with the direction of Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung to optimize the use of vacant land so that it becomes more productive. In addition to beautifying the area, this redevelopment is also expected to improve air quality in the Tanjung Priok region.

"We thank PT Pelindo for its CSR support. Hopefully this activity can serve as an example and be replicated in other areas," he expressed.

Executive Director 2 Regional II of PT Pelindo, Budi Prasetyo, shared that the project reflects the company's social and environmental responsibility in supporting North Jakarta as a clean and healthy city.

"We hope this synergy continues and becomes a model for other businesses to contribute to greening idle land in North Jakarta," he mentioned.

He added that the redevelopment of the area beneath the toll road is expected to reduce dust and air pollution that local residents have been experiencing.

Meanwhile, Head of the North Jakarta City Park and Foresttry Sub-agency, Reina Camelia, said the first phase of redevelopment is taking place on land covering 1,474 square meters with a length of approximately 280 meters.

"The design concept features flowing plant patterns inspired by sea waves, reflecting the characteristic coastal area of Tanjung Priok," she explained.

According to her, the green pathway will feature distinctive Betawi designs such as Bunga Tapak Dara and Bunga Kecubung patterns to create a beautiful and characterful city corridor.

Among the plants to be planted are Tabebuia Yellow, Philodendron, Pretty Pink, Paris Lily, Walisongo Variegata, and Adam Hawa, chosen for their effectiveness in pollution absorption and greening the surroundings.

"We hope the ecological benefits of this redevelopment will be felt sustainably in the future," she concluded.
