Thousands Reclaim Withheld Credentials through Jakarta’s Redemption Initiative

Jakarta City Council Commission E Chairman, M Subki has lauded the fifth phase of Jakarta’s diploma redemption initiative.

This is an incredible program

He highlighted the program's success in returning essential credentials to thousands of residents whose certificates were held by schools for years due to financial constraints.

In a major milestone for Jakarta’s "diploma redemption" program, over 2,000 students have finally received their long-awaited credentials. The backlog was so severe that some certificates had been held by schools since 1998.

He characterized the program as a vital intervention, ensuring that financial barriers no longer stand in the way of a citizen's career or education.

"This is an incredible program that truly serves the people," he noted Thursday (1/8), emphasizing that the move opens doors that have been closed for years.

He lauded the partnership between Governor Pramono Anung’s administration and local charitable boards for making the diploma release a reality. A significant milestone in the fifth phase was the inclusion of over 1,200 madrasah graduates.

Subki noted that the move fulfills a key recommendation from the city council’s Education Committee, which had pushed for the program to bridge the gap between state-run schools and private religious academies.

By extending the relief to madrasah students, the city is ensuring that no graduate is left behind due to financial hardship.

“Ultimately, the Commission’s vision of extending these educational benefits to Islamic school students is now a reality,” he stated, highlighting the program’s inclusive reach.
