Thousand Islands and Jakarta Bay Residents Urged to Stay Alert for Strong Winds

Jakarta Regional Disaster Management (BPBD) has issued an early warning for strong winds expected to affect parts of Jakarta, particularly the Thousand Islands waters and Jakarta Bay, from January 23-24, 2026.

"In emergencies, residents are advised to immediately contact the emergency hotline at 112,"

Based on information from the BMKG Class I Maritime Meteorology Station at Tanjung Priok, strong winds are forecast from afternoon to evening, with speeds of 20–25 knots (around 37–47 kilometers per hour), classified as Beaufort scale 5–6.

These conditions may trigger waves of 0.5–1.25 meters in Jakarta Bay and the southern waters of the Thousand Islands, with higher waves of 1.25–2.5 meters expected in the northern waters, posing risks to maritime safety.

BPBD Jakarta Head Isnawa Adji urged residents to remain alert to potential hazards caused by strong winds, including falling trees, collapsed billboards, and structural damage.

"Residents are advised to check their surroundings, secure outdoor items, and avoid high-risk areas such as under trees or unstable structures," he said on Friday (1/23).

BPBD Jakarta also encouraged the public to monitor recent wave information at bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut and to stay updated on flood conditions through pantau banjir.jakarta.go.id. Potential waterlogging or flooding can also be reported via the JAKI app.

"In emergencies, residents are advised to immediately contact the emergency hotline at 112," he added.
