Rawa Terate Floods Begin to Subside

Heavy rainfall since the early hours of Monday triggered flooding in RW 05, Rawa Terate, East Jakarta. While the floodwaters hit the residential area around 3 AM, officials confirmed that water levels began to subside later this morning.

Clearing debris and trash clogging the drainage systems

Rawa Terate Urban Village Head, Jaenudin, stated the floodwaters started receding at 8 AM. To manage the aftermath, the local office deployed five "Orange Squad" (PPSU) members and three Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel.

"PPSU is clearing debris and trash clogging the drainage systems, while Satpol PP personnel are on-site to manage traffic flow," he saisd, Monday (1/26).

Currently, no residents have evacuated, as most have opted to stay put in their homes.

However, his side remain on high alert, with two rubber boats and PPSU personnel on standby should an evacuation become necessary.

Cakung Water Resources (SDA) Unit Head, Dian Nur Cahyono confirmed that two stationary pumps at the PT Krama Yudha area are now fully operational. These pumps, with capacities of 1,000 and 300 liters per second respectively, are working to accelerate the drainage.

"We also have two mobile pumps on call to anticipate potential subsequent flooding, as the weather remains overcast," he added.

Nurhasan, a local official from RW 05 Rawa Terate, reported that heavy rainfall began pounding the area around 1 AM. By 3 AM, the Cakung Drain River had overflowed, sending water into residential streets and homes at depths ranging from 40 to 60 centimeters.

"The water began to pull back around 8 AM. As of 9:30 AM, the levels have dropped significantly to about 10–20 centimeters. We are keeping our fingers crossed that the rain holds off so the area can dry out completely," he added.
