Jakarta Fixes Over 1,300 Potholes Following Extreme Weather

To weather the storm and its aftermath, the Jakarta Public Works Agency is stepping up to the plate to fix road damage caused by recent heavy rains.

Our personnel are keeping their eyes peeled for hazards

Data indicates that 1,383 potholes were addressed in just ten days, from January 11 to 21. Personnel at every level are working around the clock to get the city's infrastructure back in shipshape and prevent accidents on the road.

Jakarta Data and Information Center Head, Siti Dinarwenny said, the tally of damaged roads is constantly being refined as teams verify conditions on the front lines.

Personnel have deployed various safety measures to keep drivers from hitting a snag on the road.

"Our personnel are keeping their eyes peeled for hazards. We handle any necessary repairs at the drop of a hat to ensure no one gets into an accident," she explained during a press update, Thursday (1/29).

She explained that the current repairs are merely stop-gap measures for emergency purposes. Patching efforts are being carried out as weather permits, given the current unpredictable conditions.

She assured that permanent repairs using hot-mix asphalt will be conducted once the weather clears up, ensuring better road quality and durability.

"Hot-mix is highly effective for long-term upkeep and is expected to break the cycle of repeat damage caused by extreme weather," she added.

The repair efforts following the heavy downpours are covering all the bases, reaching from local neighborhoods to the city’s primary thoroughfares across all five administrative cities.

"Our teams are staying on top of the situation by coordinating damage assessments and maintaining a constant watch on the roads," she added.
