112 Firefighters Extinguish Fire in Tanjung Barat

As many as 112 personnel of South Jakarta Fire Handling and Rescue Sub-agency handling fire that burned a house on Jalan Teratai XIV, RT 03/02, Tanjung Barat Urban Village, Jagakarsa District, South Jakarta.

Head of the Sub-agency, Asril Rizal said the incident was reported at 9:41 AM when the fire already grew bigger.

"Then we deployed 18 fire trucks with 112 personnel to the scene," he said, Friday (1/30).

He added that the fire that burned down the house with an area of around 210 square meters was successfully localized at 10 AM.

According to him, in the fire incident which was suspected to have been caused by a short circuit, one elderly person was found dead, suspected of having run out of oxygen due to the smoke.

"The firefighting operation was declared complete at 10:55 AM. The losses from the fire are estimated to reach billions of rupiah," he added.

Meanwhile, Rini, one of the local residents, admitted local residents had tried to extinguish the fire using a light fire extinguisher (APAR), but were unsuccessful because the fire had already spread.

"Firefighters arrived quickly and in large numbers. Thankfully, the fire didn't spread to other buildings," she admitted.
