Heritage Buildings Revitalization in Kota Tua Accelerated

Revitalization towards 12 cultural heritage buildings in Kota Tua area, Taman Sari, West Jakarta, accelerated. As reported, those buildings that still in process consist of 5 buildings in Block Tjipta Niaga, 2 buildings in Block Kerta Niaga, and 5 other buildings in PT Tjetot, Jiwasraya Insurance, Cung Hwa Drugstore, Gazebo Cafe, and Post Office.

The damage is dominated by buildings that have rotted from rain and sunlight due to most of buildings have no roof

PT Pembangunan Kota Tua Jakarta Project Director, Yayat Sujatna said the revitalization has been going on since 2014 and is scheduled to finish in 2016. At this time, his side is trying to save building which experienced decreased in structure by strengthening its building structure.

"The damage is dominated by buildings that have rotted from rain and sunlight due to most of buildings have no roof," he explained, Wednesday (7/29). 

Kota Tua to Prevent Street Vendors with Fence

In addition, his party and Jakarta Provincial Government also tries to propose the Education and Culture Ministry to transform Kota Tua into a National Heritage. Previously, the Tourism Ministry had also set Kota Tua as the Main Tourism Destination at the end of last year. 

"We're surely supporting such proposal," told Sujatna.
