Illegal Parking in Tanah Abang Getting Chaotic

Illegal parking is still rampant along Jalan KH Mas Mansyur, Jalan Jembatan Tinggi and Jalan Jatibaru Raya, Tanah Abang, Central Jakarta whereas those areas are sterile for parked vehicles.

Parking or stopping ban signs installed on those roads, seem to be ignored by riders and illegal parking attendants. Traffic condition is getting chaotic caused by mikrolet (public minivan) drivers who wait for passengers in front of Blok A of Tanah Abang Market.

Head of Supervision and Controlling Section for Central Jakarta Transportation Sub-Department, Bona Tonggam Siregar stated actually Tanah Abang area has been repeatedly controlled. But when the officers are off-guard, the illegal parking attendants use it by directing riders to park in banned area.

"We have repeatedly cracked down on parked vehicles in Tanah Abang, ranging from towing, unplugging the tire valve until ticketing. But they never be wary," he expressed.

Such condition, he continued, shows that citizens' awareness of orderly parking is still low. Then there are certain individuals that always using officer's for their selfishness and their group's.

In this week, he added, his party has towed more than 40 four-wheeled vehicles and unplugged tire valve of motorcycles that parked on banned locations.
