Parking Meter will Be Installed at 19 Locations

Jakarta Dept. of Transportation is about to instal Electronic Parking Meter at 19 locations. The effort is aimed to overcome illegal parking in Jakarta.

Andri Yansah, Head of Jakarta Dept. of Transportation, said that the parking meter could boost the local revenue. At this moment, the parking meter are only installed at Kelapa Gading (North Jakarta), Jalan Fatahillah (West Jakarta), and Jalan Sabang (Central Jakarta).

"Implementing this system is quite good since we can not guard the illegal parking area. Firm sanction seems difficult to give wary effect," he added.

Illegal Parking in Tanah Abang Getting Chaotic

As the first step, about 300 parking meter machines will be installed at 19 locations. The city administration prepares the space while the private prepares the machine and installation. The next installation will be done at 378 locations.

The parking meter is completed with closed- circuit television (CCTV). It will prevent parking attendant asking money from vehicle owners. Firm sanction starting from oral warning, written, and up to dismissal will be applied.
