Illegal Parking Rampant in Senen Market

Hundreds of motorcycles back to park on Jalan Gunung Sahari, in front of Senen Market, Blok III and VI, Senen, Central Jakarta. This illegal parking is surely cause traffic jam around the road.

Unluckily, many of visitors also parked their motorcycle on the road side

Based on the observation, those hundreds of motorcycle were parked on road side up to 5 lines along 250 meters. Moreover, many of public transport (angkot) stopping to wait passenger (ngetem) recklessly. Traffic jam was cannot be avoided, especially the traffic flow from Ancol toward Jalan R Soeprapto or Jatinegara Train Station.

Similar condition also occurred on Jalan Raya Pasar Senen. Many of street vendors selling the product on the road side.

Bona Tongam Siregar, Central Jakarta Head Section of Monitoring and Handling for Sub-dept. of Transportation, admitted those motorcycles are owned by Blok III and VI traders. They cannot enter to the market since the renovation process is still going on.

This matter, he added, had been discussed in Senen Sub-district office to move the motorcycle parking lot after the renovation process is finish.

"Unluckily, many of visitors also parked their motorcycle on the road side," he said, Friday (8/14).

Firm action was ever carried on, such as unplugging the tire valve, but local mass organization protested. However, he promised to keep controlling the illegal parking. Tongam also asked PD Pasar Jaya to assist this matter.

Agus Lamun, PD Pasar Jaya Public Relation Manager, stated the temporary shelter development for traders has been done since April. About 1,500 traders from Blok III occupy the area.

"The total renovation for Senen Blok III Market has been going on since June. It is hoped to finish in 18 months," he stated.
