Snacks With Borax Found in School Canteen

Central Jakarta Administration cooperate with Jakarta Food and Drugs Monitoring Agency (BPOM) examined snacks in school canteen, Monday (10/12). The activity goal is to prevent snacks containing harmful substances circulating in school.

The raid hold in three canteens, they are Kramat 06 Elementary School (SDN), SDN 01-06 Paseban and SDN 08-09 Kramat. Surprisingly, food containing borax found.

“The examination conduct on the spot, we’ve prepared mobile lab. That’s why we know its result immediately,” said Husnul Khatimah, one of BPOM examiner.

The examination involved a number of related units namely education, health sub-dept and BPOM.  

              

Head of Central Jakarta Education Region II, Muhammad Taufik Widrus said his side will follow up on snacks containing harmful substances by asking traders not to it anymore. If similar case is still found, they will be punished.

"We will summon all principals of schools ranging from elementary-school /vocational school to direct the entire school canteen selling healthy food,” he expressed.

Meanwhile, Principal of Paseban Elementary School 05, Karmin admitted he immediately rebuked in the canteen school owners who sell food containing borax. His side is going to continue to monitor the snacks sold in the canteen.

“We rebuked the canteen not to sell Cireng (fried rice flour). They have been selling it three months and also dropped to outside school," he finished.
