Kampung Melayu PKL Charged Illegally

Street vendors in Kampung Melayu, Jatinegara,East Jakarta whose stalls demolished claimed deposited security charge amounted to Rp 50,000 per month.

Emong (48), one of the street vendors, said the charge was coordinated by vendors coordinator initialed W (40). According to him, the money was used to pay security charge for Satpol PP of Kampung Melayu Urban Village.

"Each vendor obligated to pay security charge Rp 50,000 per month. It was taken by W and he said it's deposited to Satpol PP," he disclosed, Monday (11/23).

Meanwhile, W confirmed that every month he coordinated the charge towards about 20 vendors. He claimed the money was given to Satpol PP oknum (member) of the urban village. "I did not force them, if they don't want to pay, it's okay," he expressed.

Jatinegara Sub-District Head, Budi Setiawan acknowledged he had no idea about the charge. But he promises will investigate and give a sanction if it is true that there is Satpol PP oknum doing it.

"If we have no proof, it's hard to take action.  Perhaps, W did it on behalf of officer but the money is for himself," he stated.
