Illegal Buildings on Baru Riverbank Rampant

Although the officers have done vigorous raid against illegal buildings, yet its existence is still rampant, especially in Central Jakarta. One of them is found along Baru Riverbank in Utan Panjang Urban Village, Kemayoran.

Among buildings are RW's secretariat office, integrated post service (posyandu), and chicken slaughterhouse.

Nangka Market which is JP 30 guidance of Central Jakarta Micro Small and Medium Enterprises Cooperative Department (KUMKMP) is also located on the riverbank.

Warsih, (35), a local citizen stated those buildings have been built since 10 years. These buildings make the river flow hampered thus overflows the market.

"Those buildings have been so long, even the market," she stated, Monday (11/23).

Kemayoran Sub-District Head, Herry Purnama said that when the market was constructed by PD Pasar Jaya last year, hundreds of peddlers in Nangka Market did not get relocation place. Then they open their trading on the riverbank. As for the posyandu and the secretariat office will be moved soon.

"Including the chicken slaughterhouse. If it could be relocated, we will be easy to control the building," he explained.
