Red Onion Yields in Semanan Reach Rp 140 Million

Red onion farmers in Semanan, Kalideres, West Jakarta, are harvesting. Predictably, red onions harvested in the 1,5-hectare land reached 15-17 tons.

The crop yields then accommodated by PD Pasar Jaya to be distributed to peddlers. If it is as the estimation, the crops will make a profit amounted to Rp 140 million.

Jakarta Vice Governor, Djarot Saiful Hidayat claimed he was surprised with the crop yields. Because, Djarot said, they can still harvest red onions in the middle of developed industry sector in Jakarta.

"It is surprising. Jakarta can harvest quite good red onion in a 1,5-hectare land," he expressed, after harvesting along with farmers, Wednesday (12/16).

He told, the success achieved is a model of green open space utilization in Jakarta. Therefore, he hopes Jakarta Maritime, Agriculture, and Food Security Department to prepare the similar agriculture development in other locations.

He added that time selection and momentum of commodity type cultivation should be more considered. Because, if the crop yields is good but the price in market is drop, it disadvantages farmers.

"With the capital of Rp 70 million, planting in 60 days earn Rp 140 million, it's amazing. But it should be known when have to plant one commodity and the others, because once the price is drop then farmers will have loss," he reminded.
