Tiger Trawl Net Confiscated in Untung Jawa Island

A fisherman traditional boat which use tiger trawl (locally known as pukat harimau), was raided in Untung Jawa Island waters, South Seribu Island. The trawl then confiscated and destroyed.

The trawl is confiscated and destroyed. If they repeat and be arrested again, the boat and the pass will be destroyed

Untung Jawa Island Urban Village Head, Badri stated the fisherman boat which entered his area was from Kronjo, Tangerang, Banten. Based on the information given by the local fishermen, the officer arrested right away and escorted the boat to the pier.

"We arrested, we took the boat's pass and asked the owner to come to the urban village office," he stated, Monday (12/28).

Passengers and Crews of Tawakal Boat Evacuated

The owner made a statement not to enter Untung Jawa Island waters anymore and also not to use the trawl. Afterwards, the boat was returned to him.

"The trawl is confiscated and destroyed. If they repeat and be arrested again, the boat and the pass will be destroyed. That's written on the agreement," he uttered.

According to him, although there are so many fishermen in the island. Tiger trawl is no longer used for a long time.

"It's because can ruin the environment, even there's rule which the sanction is quite heavy," he disclosed.
