Six Streets in E. Jakarta Inundated After Nightlong Heavy Rain

East Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency reported torrential rain that poured since Wednesday (2/24) night until Thursday (2/25) morning has submerged several citizen residential in East Jakarta. Among of them are in RT 18/07 Cakung Barat, with water reaching up to 50 cm high and RW 03 and 04 Cipinang Melayu with 10-20 cm high.

We' re now still trying to dry up it using portable pump. If the weather is good, puddle will recede within 1-2 hours

"As for puddle in Cipinang Melayu, is from overflowing waters of Sunter River," said Iwan Samosir, Head of East Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency.

Additionally, he stated puddle that hit RW 03 Kampung Pulo as high as 20-30 cm is due to local puddle, instead of overflowing waters of Ciliwung River. It happens because there is dam construction thus water does not flow into channel maximally.

Four Roads Still Inundated

"Until 9 AM, puddle still inundates those three regions. We' re now still trying to dry up it using portable pump. If the weather is good, puddle will recede within 1-2 hours," he predicted.

Similar disaster is also spotted on Jalan Swadaya Pos Pulogebang, Cakung, precisely at RT 09/04 and 05/04, with water level between 30-40 cm, Jalan H Taiman Barat 1, RW 02, Gedong, Pasar Rebo, with water level 30 cm, and Jalan Muhidin RW 03 Dukuh, Kramat Jati, with water level 30-40 cm.

"But puddle has receded at around 3-4 AM. This is because of nightlong heavy rain," he told.

To solve puddle in Cakung Barat RT 18/07, his side sent two mobile pumps. Then puddle flowed into Kalimalang Rivulet. And in Kampung Pulo, puddle pumped and flowed into Ciliwung River.
