Every Year, 5,000 Turtles Rehabilitated

To cope with the extinction of hawksbill and green turtles in Seribu Islands, the Harapan Island National Park continues to rehabilitate turtles in the waters of the Seribu Islands on the north.

In a year, we can rescue 5,000 turtles, starting from save the eggs, hatch and release the hatchlings to an adult

"In a year, we can rescue 5,000 turtles, starting from save the eggs, hatch and release the hatchlings to an adult," said Rudi Madandan, Forest Police Superintendent, National Park Region 2 North Seribu Islands, Wednesday (5/18).

The eggs are rehabilitated from Peteloran Barat and Timur islands.

4,300 Fish Seeds Released to the Sea

"In a year, the egg laying period is twice, and we should be quick to take and save the eggs," he stated.

He added, in a year, 5,000 turtles from rehabilitation result must be released to the sea, either through educational tours along with student or public routinely.

Besides that, the Seribu Islands National Park also does mangrove seedlings.
