Head of Pollution and Environmental Damage Control Section for South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency, Tuty Ernawati Sapardin, said the emission testing activities were carried out in accordance with Governor Regulation Number 66/2020 about Vehicle Exhaust Emission Testing as an effort to control air quality so that Jakarta's air becomes cleaner.

"Considering that motor vehicles are one of the biggest contributors to air pollution in Jakarta, we strive to monitor the number of vehicles that pass and fail the emissions test," he said, Thursday (2/5).

This compliance emissions test involved a joint team of 25 personnel. Of the 102 two-wheeled and four-wheeled vehicles tested, 80 passed the emissions test, while the rest failed.

According to him, vehicles that fail emissions tests are contributing to air pollution in Jakarta. Therefore, the public is urged to participate in maintaining air quality by regularly having their vehicles tested for emissions.

"This legal compliance activity is carried out four times a year. We urge the public to maintain and repair their vehicles regularly. Furthermore, the public is asked to undergo emissions testing to ensure their vehicles are not polluting Jakarta's air," he added.

Head of Operational Development Affairs of the South Jakarta Traffic Unit, AKP Joko Purnomo, added that the emission test for legal compliance aims to reduce the level of unfitness of vehicles operating on the road.

"This activity was carried out in conjunction with the 2026 Traffic Safety Operation, prioritizing efforts to reduce the number of traffic violations and accidents," he said.

Joko explained that currently, vehicles, especially four-wheeled vehicles, that fail emissions tests are still given warning letters. However, in the future, emissions test results may become a requirement for renewing a Vehicle Registration Certificate (STNK).

"We urge all drivers, both two-wheeled and four-wheeled, to regularly maintain their vehicles," he appealed.
