South Jakarta Residents Encouraged to Maintain Cleanliness to Prevent Dengue Fever

The South Jakarta Mayor, Muhammad Anwar, invited all residents and stakeholders to be more disciplined in maintaining environmental cleanliness in order to prevent an increase in Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) cases during the rainy season

Anwar said that dengue fever cases have the potential to increase during the rainy season due to heavy rainfall that creates large pools of water. These conditions create ideal breeding grounds for the Aedes aegypti mosquito.

"I find the most stagnant water in bottles or used items. This allows mosquitoes to lay eggs and reproduce very quickly," he said, Tuesday (2/10).

High Rainfall Raises Concerns Over Potential Dengue Spike

He emphasized the importance of implementing 3M Plus, namely draining water reservoirs, tightly closing water containers, and recycling used items that have the potential to hold water.

The South Jakarta City Government continues to promote regular environmental community service by targeting water channels and locations that have the potential to cause the environment to become slum-like.

"We have been conducting routine community service activities three times a week. The community must also be involved in all activities," he added.

Anwar emphasized that the role, awareness, and concern of all stakeholders are essential to creating a clean environment and preventing the spread of dengue fever in South Jakarta.

Previously, the South Jakarta Health Sub-agency recorded 38 dengue fever cases in January 2026.

Head of the sub-agency, Debi Intan Suri explained adolescents and young adults are the age groups most vulnerable to dengue fever.

"The highest number of cases was recorded in the 12-25 age group, followed by children aged 5-11 and the productive age group of 26-45. Meanwhile, the elderly group recorded a relatively lower number of cases," she explained.
