South Jakarta Patches 2,531 Potholes Since January

The South Jakarta Public Works Agency has patched up 2,531 potholes across the city from January through early February 2026. This all-out effort aims to ensure the safety of commuters and keep the city’s traffic flowing smoothly.

We have already tackled 2,531 spots with asphalt patching

South Jakarta Public Works Agency Head, Rifki Rismal noted that the repairs were triggered by boots-on-the-ground monitoring as well as a flurry of reports from citizens via JAKI app and various social media platforms.

“We have already tackled 2,531 spots with asphalt patching. Meanwhile, another 161 spots are still on the cards for repair; these have been temporarily marked with spray paint to alert motorists,” he expressed, Thursday (2/12)

He warned that the number of potholes is expected to climb as heavy rainfall continues to take its toll on city streets. Currently, the agency is waiting for a window of better weather to carry out permanent repairs on the affected road sections.

“If the damage goes below the surface and compromises the road’s structural integrity, we will go the extra mile to overhaul it right down to its foundation,” he clarified.

He assured that the agency will keep a weather eye on the situation and proceed with repairs bit by bit. This proactive stance is aimed at cutting the risk of accidents and keeping the city's traffic flowing like clockwork.

Rifki issued a plea for motorists to exercise extreme caution and keep their speed in check—particularly motorcyclists—since several areas have yet to be fully brought up to par.

“Under directives from the higher-ups, we are pulling out all the stops to finish the job as quickly as possible. We are pounding the pavement every day with ongoing asphalt patching operations,” he stated emphatically.
