MRT Jakarta Sets Ground Rules for Breaking Fast on Board

PT MRT Jakarta (Perseroda) has rolled out a special policy to accommodate fasting commuters as Ramadan begins.
This policy kicks off today
Under the new guidelines, passengers are permitted to break their fast while on board the Ratangga trains or within the paid concourse areas once the Maghrib call to prayer sounds. However, those choosing to eat on the move must stick to the basics: only plain water and dates are allowed.
Further, the transit operator has established a 10-minute grace period for Iftar on board. Once this window closes, passengers are encouraged to continue their meal in the unpaid concourse areas. Sugary drinks—such as tea, coffee, syrup, or soda—and snacks other than dates remain strictly off-limits to maintain station cleanliness.
Jakarta Puts Entertainment Venues Under the Microscope This Ramadan"This policy kicks off today, Thursday (2/19), coinciding with the start of the fasting month,” stated PT MRT Jakarta's Corporate Secretary Division Head, Rendy Primartantyo.
He noted that MRT Jakarta is also rolling out its #MelajuPenuhMakna (Commuting with Meaning) campaign, an invitation to ensure every journey carries extra weight during the holy month.
He explained that the initiative features a diverse lineup, ranging from educational content and digital activations to takjil (fast-breaking snack) giveaways at stations. The campaign also includes heartfelt social programs, such as communal Iftar with orphans and people with disabilities, public donation drives, and the distribution of Ramadan blessing packs.
“MRT Jakarta encourages the public to go beyond just traveling from point A to point B. We want to move together in the spirit of sharing, compassion, and community throughout Ramadan,” he remarked.
He added that under the theme "A More Meaningful Journey with MRT Jakarta," passengers are invited to meet their spiritual obligations with ease and order, even amidst the hustle and bustle of the city.
“Aside that, MRT Jakarta has lined up a variety of passenger-centric programs to be enjoyed throughout Ramadan,” he concluded.
