600 Substrat Karang Dilepas di Perairan Pulau Pari

600 Coral Reef Substrates Deployed in Pari Island Waters

Six hundred coral reef substrates have been deployed in the waters of Pari Island, South Seribu Islands. This environmental initiative was led by the Seribu Islands Food Security, Maritime, and Agriculture Sub-agency (KPKP) alongside the local Ekopuri Community-Based Marine Protected Area group.

To assist in the recovery process of damaged coral reef ecosystems

Seribu Islands KPKP Sub-agency Head, Nurliati said, deploying these coral substrates represents a tangible effort to conserve the marine ecosystem in Seribu Islands.

She noted that these substrates will function as a foundation where corals and other marine life can attach and flourish.

"This effort aims to assist in the recovery process of damaged coral reef ecosystems, while also providing a new medium for the growth of corals and marine organisms," she said, Monday (3/16).

She added that the deployment of these substrates is being conducted in stages. Hopefully, the presence of these substrates will provide new habitats for various fish species and marine life, ensuring that the balance of the marine ecosystem is maintained.

"This initiative promotes sustainable fisheries and improves marine health, eventually benefiting coastal residents," she noted.

At the same time, Ekopuri Pari Island DPL-BM Group Head, Muhammad Yusuf conveyed his gratitude for the support from various stakeholders in carrying out the project.

"We hope these substrates will support new coral growth and improve the marine environment," he remarked.

He hoped that Pari Island's reefs could recover over time, providing a healthy habitat for marine biota across the Seribu Islands. Further, marine preservation is expected to be carried out sustainably with active local participation

"By safeguarding our oceans today, we are contributing to the sustainability of the ecosystem and the well-being of coastal residents," he asserted.
