Dike is Needed to Save Jakarta

Jakarta Governor, Basuki T. Purnama explained river water will not able to flow into the sea in the next 30 years. It is because land surface in the capital always decreasing. One of the ways to solve the matter is by constructing dike and pump.

River in northern areas has already declining

“River in northern areas has already declining,” he said, Tuesday (6/7).

Basuki added that the existing dike is not enough. The existing dike height is only 2.8 meters, while new dike needs height 3.5 meters.

Jakarta Needs Citizens Support for Its Improvement

Jakarta Provincial Government together with central government have planned to construct type A dike along 120 kilometers.

“Temporarily, we will use dike A. Later on, it will use dike B and C. Dike C is what we called Giant Sea Wall,” he added.

Dike construction is also aimed to protect Niza Zachman port. The port is always flooded very often. In fact, 70 percent of fish import comes from the port.

By constructing dike, Jakarta Provincial Government will has land by 12 ha. The land will be use to develop the port.

“We have additional land by 12 ha. We’ll construct warehouse, store, and settlement for fishermen,” he closed.
