Jakarta Deploys Mobile Units to Register Post-Eid Newcomers

The Jakarta Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil) is conducting socialization and mobile outreach services throughout April to register new arrivals following the Eid 2026 holiday. This measure is being taken to ensure orderly population administration.

Crucial for devising development strategies

Population mobility after Eid is an annual phenomenon inseparable from Jakarta’s dynamics as the national economic hub. Despite the city remains a primary destination, the number of new arrivals to the capital is projected to decrease compared to previous years.

Jakarta Dukcapil Agency Head, Denny Wahyu Haryanto said, as a global city, Jakarta is open to anyone seeking to improve their standard of living. However, the government emphasizes orderly administration rather than restricting mobility.

"The formulation of socio-economic policies based on population data, or data-driven policy, is crucial for devising development strategies. This includes preparing infrastructure such as public transportation, healthcare, and education," he stated, Thursday (2/4).

He added that sound population management must be supported by accurate data. Hence, registering new arrivals is a vital instrument for maintaining the balance between urbanization trends and the city’s service capacity.

Every newcomer, whether residing temporarily or permanently, is required to report to the local neighborhood heads (RT/RW) no later than 24 hours after arriving in Jakarta. This regulation refers to the City Secretary’s Circular Letter Number SE/14/2026 on the Appeal to Maintain Security, Peace, and Public Order during Eid al-Fitr 1447 Hijri/2026 M.

“This is a fundamental obligation within the population administration system and can't be ignored,” he emphasized.

To support the data collection process, the Population and Civil Registration Agency (Dukcapil) provides the DataWarga application, which RT/RW heads can use to record newcomers in their respective areas. Additionally, the Jakarta government is conducting massive and structured socialization efforts, alongside mobile outreach services across all regions throughout the month.

These activities involve administrative city and regency governments, sub-districts, urban villages, and RT/RW levels as the frontline for field data collection. Newcomer data is monitored through an integrated digital system that is updated daily via the website https://kependudukancapil.jakarta.go.id.

Based on data as of April 1, 2026, a total of 1,776 new arrivals have been recorded entering Jakarta, consisting of 891 males (50.17 percent) and 885 females (49.83 percent). The majority of these newcomers—approximately 79.34 percent—are within the productive age range (15–64 years), indicating the dominance of the working-age population in the post-Eid urbanization trend.

The Dukcapil Agency also emphasized that all newcomers, whether permanent or non-permanent, are required to be registered in the population administration. This is in accordance with Law Number 23/2006 on Population Administration and its subsequent amendment, Law Number 24/2013.

This registration is essential to provide legal certainty while generating accurate data as a basis for formulating social, economic, and public service policies.

Residents planning to move to Jakarta are also urged to prepare themselves thoroughly, including ensuring they have a place of residence, employment, and the readiness to adapt to an urban environment.

Through this program, the Dukcapil Agency emphasizes that orderly population administration is not merely an individual obligation, but a vital foundation for realizing Jakarta as an organized, inclusive, and sustainable global city.

“New arrivals can access Dukcapil services at the sub-district, urban village, and city/regency levels free of charge. Information is also available through the official Dukcapil social media @dukcapiljakarta, the 'WA Jawara' WhatsApp service at 0812-120-120-31, or the call center at 1500-031,” Denny concluded.
