note for all of us
West Jakarta Mayor Iin Mutmainah stated that the FGD aimed to brainstorm flood mitigation strategies. She said to having recorded flooding incidents in several locations during the last rainy season.
Jakarta Coastal Areas on Alert for Possible Tidal Flood"I've seen it at least three times. This is a note for all of us," she said.
Iin admitted that during the incident, which occurred during the rainy season, her team had carried out the necessary measures according to standard operating procedures (SOP), including rescue, evaluation, and treatment of affected residents. This included preparing shelters and providing logistics for residents in evacuation centers.
"I invite all relevant ranks and UKPDs to play a role in providing input on handling efforts," she added.
Iin explained that the issue of the water flow system emerged during the focus group discussions. Therefore, she encouraged the formation of a team at the district level to assess the condition and existing channels to ensure they are functioning properly.
"Prevention efforts can also be carried out by carrying out community service involving the residents," she stated.
Therefore, this weekend, Sunday (4/12), Iin plans to carry out the first mass community service activity after the rainy season to overcome flooding in the Rawa Buaya Urban Village, Cengkareng District.
The resource person for the West Jakarta City Government's Flood Mitigation FGD, Heriyanto, explained that the flooding problem in West Jakarta was caused by the water channel system in the West Jakarta area not functioning optimally.
Therefore, the solution requires efforts to normalize, drain, dredge, and properly manage waste.
Furthermore, new water catchment areas, such as the construction of reservoirs, and supporting infrastructure like pump houses, are needed.
"So, the most important thing is to dredge the mud, rivers, and trash, and all of that will reduce flooding. That's the point," he said.
