According to Central Jakarta Vice Mayor Eric PZ Lumbun, the initiative is part of efforts to accelerate tuberculosis elimination in the area.

"Tuberculosis can be tackled by strengthening synergy across all levels of society," he said while opening the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day commemoration at the Main Multipurpose Hall of the Central Jakarta Mayor's Office on Thursday (4/23).

Eric said the administration plans to expand the program this year and urged urban village and sub-district heads to provide assistance and directly monitor the activity of TB-Alert Villages in their respective areas.

"We hope the program will foster a community that is aware, responsive, and capable of preventing and handling tuberculosis," he said.

Chair of the 2026 World Tuberculosis Day commemoration committee for Central Jakarta and Head of Disease Prevention and Control Section at the Central Jakarta Health Sub-agency, Novita Suprapto Wati, noted the expansion of TB-Alert Villages in each urban village follows directives from the Regional Secretary and the Central Jakarta Mayor to ensure TB control reaches the grassroots level.

"We appreciate the Central Jakarta administration for fully supporting this initiative. Through strong multisectoral collaboration, we hope to further improve public health in Central Jakarta," she said.
