Jakarta Vice Governor Rano Karno has backed a plan to add 5,000 Public Order Agency (Satpol PP) personnel, but stressed the increase must be carried out in phases.
It is indeed demanding
"I'm not saying the workload is excessive, but it is indeed demanding. Health must remain a priority," he said on Friday (4/24).
Satpol PP Needs Command Headquarter, Rano SaysAccording to Rano, the proposal to add 5,000 Satpol PP personnel is reasonable. He compared it with the Jakarta Fire and Rescue Agency, which requires an additional 11,000 personnel due to the size of the area and population it serves.
He said the expansion of Jakarta's programs is also a factor, noting that TransJakarta services have been extended to the Greater Jakarta area.
The route expansion, he explained, requires additional Satpol PP personnel to ensure asset security and maintain order along transit corridors. The administration also plans to establish a Tourism Satpol PP unit.
The unit will be tasked with maintaining public order in tourism areas such as Kota Tua, which is set for revitalization. While sharing the same core duties, the Tourism unit will have a distinct uniform and adopt a more community-oriented approach.
Rano also highlighted that 35 Satpol PP personnel died within a year due to accumulated health conditions over time.
As part of the solution, he underscored the need to build a proper Satpol PP headquarters.
He noted the current headquarters on Jalan Kebon Sirih is too small and inadequate. The planned facility would serve as a digital monitoring command center, a base for vehicle deployment, and a rest area for personnel after duty.
'The plan has been designed and budgeted, but was affected by efficiency measures. I've discussed this with the Governor, and we may need to reassess it, especially as Jakarta moves toward becoming a global city," he asserted.
