Be Vigilant: 12 Areas Potentially Affected by Tidal Flooding

The Jakarta Regional Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has issued a vigilance warning regarding potential coastal flooding (tidal floods or called rob), which is expected to occur from May 1 to May 8, 2026.

The alert follows a report from the Tanjung Priok Class I Maritime Meteorological Station (BMKG), indicating a maximum sea level tide phenomenon coinciding with the New Moon phase, or Perigee.

Jakarta BPBD Head, Isnawa Adji, stated that this phenomenon could trigger a rise in sea levels across the northern coastal areas of Jakarta.

BPBD Warns of Potential Extreme Weather

"Coastal communities need to increase their preparedness, as the duration of the high tide may last for several consecutive days. Please also ensure that drainage systems around homes are functioning properly to prevent flooding," he expressed, Monday (5/4).

He noted that the peak of the maximum tide is estimated to occur between 8 PM and 1 AM, with several areas potentially affected.

These areas include Kamal Muara, Kapuk Muara, Penjaringan, Pluit, Ancol, Kamal, Marunda, Cilincing, Kalibaru, Muara Angke, Tanjung Priok, and Seribu Islands region.

His party urged residents to remain vigilant against changing weather conditions and the rapidly shifting dynamics of sea levels. Further, residents are reminded to avoid activities in coastal areas at risk of tidal flooding, especially during peak tide hours.

BPBD also encouraged the public to monitor official information through the government's digital channels, such as the Tidal Wave Early Warning at bpbd.jakarta.go.id/gelombanglaut, JAKI application for reporting inundations, and the pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id website for real-time condition updates.

"112 free emergency service has also been prepared by the government to respond to emergency situations and reports from residents in need of assistance," he concluded.
