1,700 Vehicles Targeted for Free Emission Tests in South Jakarta

The South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency targets 1,700 vehicles to participate in free emission tests throughout 2026.

This initiative aims to reduce air pollution caused by motor vehicle exhaust emissions.

South Jakarta Pollution and Environmental Damage Control (PPKL) Section Head, Tuty Ernawati Sapardin, stated the emission tests are conducted to ensure that pollutant levels from vehicle exhaust remain within the established limits.

"Vehicles that have completed the emission test will be recorded in the e-emission test application. This documentation can also serve as proof whenever emission tests are required for other purposes," she expressed, Monday (5/18).

She explained that the target of 1,700 vehicles is divided into four quarters. The first quarter targets 200 vehicles, while the second, third, and fourth quarters each target 500 vehicles.

To achieve this aim, the South Jakarta Environment Sub-agency will hold regular emission tests across 10 sub-district offices in South Jakarta, with a target of 100 vehicles per activity.

"Emission testing is also integrated into law enforcement activities and other supporting programs," she explained.

Tuty mentioned that the emission test achievements in the previous year successfully exceeded the set target. In 2025, the initial target was 1,500 vehicles, but by the end of the fourth quarter, the number of vehicles tested reached nearly 2,000 units.

"Last year’s target was 1,500 vehicles, but by the end of the fourth quarter, nearly 2,000 vehicles had undergone emission tests. We hope the number will be even higher this year," she explained.

She urged residents to perform regular vehicle emission tests at least once a year.

"This step is essential to support the creation of better air quality in Jakarta," she concluded.
