The Jakarta Disaster Mitigation Agency (BPBD) has issued an early warning regarding potential extreme weather across the capital from May 20 to 24, 2026.
To anticipate and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather
Based on reports from the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), Jakarta—including Seribu Islands—is expected to see moderate to heavy rainfall, which could trigger hydrometeorological hazards.
In light of this, BPBD is urging the public to stay on high alert and step up their preparedness to face the potential impact of severe weather.
BPBD Warns of Potential Extreme Weather“Preparedness is the name of the game in minimizing disaster risks, particularly flash floods and standing water,” expressed BPBD Jakarta Head, Isnawa Adji, Thursday (5/21).
BPBD also encourages residents to keep a close eye on live updates through official channels, such as the water level monitoring site at bpbd.jakarta.go.id/waterlevel and the latest flood information at pantaubanjir.jakarta.go.id.
Additionally, residents are advised to be better safe than sorry by preparing emergency gear, such as umbrellas, raincoats, and disaster-ready "go-bags".
Isnawa reminded the public to immediately contact the "Jakarta Siaga 112" call center in the event of an emergency or if assistance is required. This round-the-clock service is accessible free of charge.
“BPBD Jakarta is ensuring that cross-agency coordination remains seamless to anticipate and mitigate the impacts of extreme weather in the capital,” he concluded.
