Dengue Fever Cases in Kembangan District Drop by 60 Percent

Dengue fever cases in the Kembangan District, West Jakarta, during January-May 2026 experienced a decrease of up to 60 percent compared to the same period the previous year.

Head of West Jakarta Health Sub-agency, Sahruna said in January-May 2026, there were 89 cases of dengue fever recorded in the Kembangan District area.

This number, Sahruna added, is a drastic decrease compared to 227 cases in 2025. Meanwhile, in the same period in 2024, there were 377 cases.

"In addition to the massive mosquito nest eradication efforts that have been implemented, the implementation of the Wolbachia method is an important factor in reducing dengue fever cases in Kembangan," he said.

The Jakarta Provincial Government has launched a dengue fever control program using Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes in the RW 07 area of Kembangan Utara in October 2024.

Kembangan District was chosen as the first location for the release of Wolbachia-carrying mosquitoes because it had the highest number of dengue fever cases in 2023 with an IR of 54.1 per 100,000 residents.

Since its launch in October 2024, the Wolbachia program has been expanded to five other urban villages namely Kembangan Selatan, Meruya Utara, Meruya Selatan, Joglo, and Srengseng.

As a result, the decline in cases that occurred during the January-May 2026 period had an impact on the IR (Incidence Rate) assessment of dengue fever cases in Kembangan District, which decreased to seventh place in West Jakarta.

"As of June 7, there had only been three cases. Meanwhile, dengue fever cases for June 2025 were 49," he stated.
