According to Dudi Gardesi, Head of Jakarta Environmental Agency, the action is more than just a symbolic gesture; it aims to inspire residents to integrate energy-saving practices into their everyday routines.
He elaborated that modest steps taken collectively can produce a profound effect on the health of our ecosystem.
"The one-hour blackout stands as a testament to our communal commitment to the environment and the destiny of this city," he stated, Friday (6/12).
According to him, unified public engagement is the cornerstone of efforts to curb carbon footprints and maintain environmental longevity.
"Minor adjustments made together can lead to significant breakthroughs. We invite the entire community to make energy efficiency a lifestyle, ensuring Jakarta remains a vibrant and livable city for posterity," he concluded.
According to his explanation, this environmental action is mandated by Governor’s Instruction No. 14/2021, which outlines the framework for energy efficiency and carbon footprint reduction through strategic blackouts.
He added that the preceding event on Saturday (4/25) achieved a substantial milestone, recording 96.91 MWh in power savings and generating Rp 140,226,312 in financial efficiency. Additionally, the initiative curbed carbon emissions by an impressive 77.53 tons of CO2e.
In his view, these outcomes underscore how rudimentary measures—such as deactivating lights and idle electronic devices—can yield substantial dividends when implemented with consistency and collective resolve.
"Through this modest initiative, we actively contribute to upholding environmental integrity while simultaneously optimizing energy consumption. Should this evolve into a communal habit, its cumulative impact will be instrumental in forging a cleaner, healthier, and more sustainable future for Jakarta," he emphasized.
