Kelapa Island Seawall Heightened to Combat Tidal Floods

The Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency's is heightening the seawall as part of maintenance efforts on the west side of the RW 01 Soccer Field on Kelapa Island, North Seribu Islands Sub-district.
The work has been underway since early June 2026
Seribu Islands Water Resources Sub-agency Head, Frans Agustinus Siahaan stated that hightening the seawall follows up on community requests voiced during a deliberation forum to bolster coastal infrastructure.
"Eight personnel are assigned daily to work on raising the seawall," he expressed, Friday (6/19).
NCICD Seawall Seen as Key to On-Time, Maximum Flood ProtectionHe explained that the heightened embankment spans 70 meters in length and 59 centimeters in width. Previously 1.5 meters high, the structure is being raised by an additional 25 centimeters to more effectively withstand high tides.
"The work has been underway since early June 2026. Currently, progress has reached 50 percent, and it is targeted for completion by the end of June 2026," he clarified.
He hopes the project will safeguard the RW 01 Soccer Field area from tidal floods, allowing sports and community gatherings to proceed without disruption.
"We hope this serves the residents well in the long run. We also encourage the public to take part in maintaining and preserving the improved infrastructure," he added.
This work received appreciation from one of the North Seribu Islands Regency Council members, Sahdan.
He added that it does more than just bolster flood defenses; it also helps organize the coastal landscape for a more comfortable environment.
"I am grateful to the Water Resources Sub-agency team. Hope the locals will help look after this facility to ensure it continues to function at its best," he concluded.
