More Than a Meal: Nyahi On The Bus 2026 Unveils the History Behind Betawi Flavors

Cuisine is more than just a meal to be savored. Behind every dish lies a history, cultural values, identity, and the traces of civilization that shape the very soul of a city.

This activity also acts as a forum

Building upon this vision, the Jakarta Regional Board of the Indonesian Culinary Experts Association (DPD IKABOGA) is once again hosting Nyahi On The Bus (NOTB) 2026. This event follows the success of the edition 2025, which received widespread acclaim from the public and various stakeholders.

Under the theme ‘Nyahi: A Meeting Point of Civilizations in Betawi Flavors,’ the event will take place on June 27–28, 2026, at ITC Cempaka Mas, Central Jakarta, as part of the ‘499 Years of Jakarta Flavors’ Festival series.

NOTB 2026 Committee Head, Indah Erniawati noted that this year's edition brings a broader and more collaborative array of activities. This approach aims to position NOTB 2026 as a hub for education and cultural promotion, while simultaneously boosting the creative economy through the introduction of Betawi’s culinary wealth.

"This activity also acts as a forum where various segments of society can connect through an interactive and inspiring experience,” she remarked, Monday (6/29).

In her view, Betawi cuisine reflects the extensive evolution of Jakarta as a port city, which since its inception has served as a melting pot for cultures from every corner of the world.

During the two-day festivities, visitors can expect a packed schedule: MSME bazaars, cooking and traditional snack demos, product activations, live music, interactive quizzes, and door prize giveaways.

She highlighted that a cornerstone and signature attraction of the event is Nyahi On The Bus (NOTB)—a unique cultural and culinary journey by bus.

"With this program, participants will experience the face of Jakarta while gaining insights into its history, culture, and evolution over time," she added.

To strengthen the cultural education aspect, the event also features the Betawi Cultural Institute (LKB). LKB representative, Yahya Andi Saputra shares perspectives on the history, philosophy, and evolution of Betawi culture amidst the dynamics of modern Jakarta.

"LKB is expected to enrich participants' understanding of the connection between culinary arts, traditions, and the identity of the Betawi people,” she emphasized.
