JEFF 2026 Promotes Low-Waste Lifestyle through Less Waste Event Concept

Beyond being the flagship environmental event of the year, the Jakarta Eco Future Festival (JEFF) 2026 sets a new standard for eco-conscious public gatherings.

We ensure a dedicated stream for every bit of waste

By championing the 'Less Waste Event' philosophy, the festival inspires a shift in habits—focusing on cutting waste at the source, promoting diligent sorting, and integrating reusable systems from start to finish.

The implementation of this concept adheres to the guidelines for less waste events issued by the Ministry of Environment and the Jakarta Environmental Agency. These guidelines serve as a benchmark to ensure that the entire festival operates according to eco-friendly principles and can act as a model for other public activities.

Jakarta Environmental Agency Head, Dudi Gardesi Asikin emphasized that the 'Less Waste Event' concept is key to Jakarta’s mission of ensuring public celebrations are as sustainable as they are educational.

"Sustainability shouldn't just happen at home; it belongs in our festivals and public spaces too. With JEFF 2026, we are proving that massive public gatherings can be managed mindfully, neatly, and with full accountability toward the environment," he explained, Friday (7/3).

Dudi highlighted that JEFF 2026 is the perfect stage to show that sustainability is a collective effort. From visitors and tenants to local businesses and field crews, everyone is a key player in ensuring a clean and pleasant festival experience.

To support this, 13 waste segregation stations for organic, inorganic, and residual waste have been deployed. Adding a human touch to the technology, Saka Kalpataru Scouts are stationed at every point to provide on-site education, helping visitors master the art of sorting waste at the source.

"We ensure a dedicated stream for every bit of waste. Organics are repurposed into compost and maggot feed by the Gambir Environmental Unit, inorganics are channeled through the City Hall Waste Station, and only residuals are sent to Bantargebang," he noted.

JEFF 2026 is also pioneering a 'Reuse Protocol' alongside Dietplastik Indonesia to tackle single-use plastic. By requiring all F&B tenants to use reusable serving ware, the festival is successfully slashing its waste footprint, proving that large-scale events can be truly sustainable.

Closing the loop, the festival features multiple drop points where visitors can return their containers. These items are then professionally sanitized in a dedicated facility before being cycled back to tenants for reuse. Dudi envisions JEFF 2026 as a beacon of best practices for Jakarta's public gatherings.

"The more we normalize low-waste and reuse systems, the deeper we root a sustainable, eco-conscious culture in our society," he noted.

"Building a culture of sorting and reusing is a collective journey. While the actions are simple, the results are massive if we stay consistent. We call upon every visitor at JEFF 2026 to join the movement: sort your waste, return your reusables, and help us drive the change for a cleaner, greener, and more sustainable Jakarta," he closed.
