Over seven truckloads of mud and trash were hauled away during a massive drainage dredging operation on Jalan Melawai I, Melawai Urban Village, Kebayoran Baru Sub-district, South Jakarta.

Kebayoran Baru Sub-district Water Resources (SDA) Executing Unit Head, Sutopo noted that the cleanup was a direct response to the massive buildup of waste and sediment found after recent heavy rains.

"Following the floods in the Blok M area caused by intense rainfall, our team conducted a check and found the culprit: channels packed with trash and silt that blocked the water from flowing properly," he expressed, Tuesday (7/7).

The 510-meter cleanup operation was conducted by a dedicated team of 12 personnel and PPSU personnel.

"It was a month-long project. Various challenges had delayed dredging here for quite a while, leading to a massive buildup of plastic debris that choked the system and crippled the water flow," Sutopo explained.

He then made a strong plea to the community: stop throwing trash into the drains. Public cooperation is the key to keeping our surroundings clean and stopping flood-inducing blockages before they start.

"As a major center of activity, Blok M needs everyone’s care. I invite all stakeholders to prioritize environmental cleanliness. Let’s work together for a flood-free future," he stated.

This work received appreciation from one of the locals, Faiz Adzimi.

"The relentless efforts of our team are truly commendable. Hope witnessing this struggle inspires the community to be more mindful and put an end to littering once and for all," he stated.
