East Jakarta Clears 45 Tons of Waste From Cakung Market TPS

The cleanup of 45 tons of waste at the temporary waste collection site (TPS) in RW 01, Cakung Barat Urban Village, Cakung Sub-district, East Jakarta, was completed after nearly three days.

There are no longer any piles of waste

Cakung Sub-district Environment Unit Head Encep Suryana said all of the waste had been transported to the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST).

Waste Management at The Landfill Behind Cakung Market to Complete Tomorrow

"As scheduled, the cleanup was completed on Thursday. There are no longer any piles of waste at the temporary collection site behind Cakung Market," he said on Thursday (9/7).

Encep explained that his team deployed five 5-ton tipper trucks and one 10-ton tipper truck to speed up the cleanup operation.

Meanwhile, Cakung Barat Urban Village Head Yasir Habib Putra said the TPS would remain in operation because it is an officially designated facility.

"This TPS has existed since Cakung Market was built. In fact, it was already there before the KM 21 public housing complex was developed," he added.

To prevent waste from piling up again, Yasir said the urban village administration is encouraging Cakung Market to manage its waste independently or in partnership with a third-party service provider.

"We also encourage residents to continue sorting and processing waste at the source so that similar incidents do not happen again," he said.
