North Jakarta Speeds Up Trash Clearance at Waduk Pluit Flats

The North Jakarta Environment Sub-agency is currently accelerating the cleanup of trash piles at the Waduk Pluit Flats' temporary disposal site in Penjaringan, aiming for a quicker turnaround and a better living space for residents.

We’re maximizing every resource we have to restore the environment

North Jakarta Waste Management Section Head, Ardiyanto shared that three dump trucks and heavy equipment have been deployed, along with 10 dedicated personnel to clear the area. The personnel are systematically tackling the trash piles to get the site spotless again.

"We’re maximizing every resource we have to restore the environment and make sure the trash collection flow for the community is back on track and running smoothly," he expressed, Wednesday (7/15).

Pluit Residents Receive Assistance with Waste Sorting Facilities

To get the job done in the next 7 to 10 days. It is estimated to take about 30 trips to clear the site. To speed things up, more trucks and extra hands are being brought in as needed.

"Starting today, we’re boosting our fleet and crew to accelerate the cleanup, staying flexible to the conditions on-site," he explained.

Ardiyanto emphasized that long-term waste solutions must involve the housing management through clear, measurable, and regularly evaluated reduction targets.

"Once this buildup is cleared, a total revamp of the waste management system within the complex is essential. Management must ensure that trash containers are fully operational and strictly enforce a no-littering policy outside designated areas," he stressed.

Then residents are invited to start reducing and sorting their waste from the get-go. By picking out items that can still be recycled, we can slash the amount of trash hitting the dump sites.

"Sustainability is a team effort. When management takes responsibility and the community gets involved, keeping our living space clean becomes a reality, not just a goal," he added.
