Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said he has been following the Menteng Asphalt League, a street football tournament organized by residents of RW 08 in Menteng Urban Village, Central Jakarta, for children aged seven and above.
I see how much joy it brings to the children
Pramono said the tournament has brought joy to children by giving them a chance to pursue their passion for football despite the limited space available.
Jakarta Prepares Sports Centers for 2026 World Cup Public Screenings"To be honest, I've been following the Asphalt League because I see how much joy it brings to the children who make use of the space," he said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (7/17).
However, Pramono acknowledged that asphalt is far from an ideal surface for playing football. He said the tournament emerged because Jakarta lacks enough proper playing fields.
"Although asphalt is not an ideal place to play football, the tournament exists because sports facilities are limited in a city of 11 million people. The land actually belongs to KAI," he added.
Pramono assured that the Jakarta Provincial Government will continue expanding sports facilities so that children have better places to stay active and develop their talents.
"The Jakarta Provincial Government continues to seek ways to provide sports facilities for children. We may not be able to do everything at once, but we have already begun restoring several facilities," he said.
