Waste Sorting in Karet Semanggi is Increasingly Optimized

The Karet Semanggi Urban Village, Setiabudi District, South Jakarta, continues to promote community-based waste management as an effort to address the environmental waste problem. Dozens of waste management facilities are available and spread across several locations in the area.

Head of Semanggi Urban Village, Purwati said the waste management facilities that are available consist of three modern ponds, 24 jumbo biopore holes, and four composters.

"We spread the locations around residents' homes and parks. At residents' homes, we have more composters as a means of waste management," she said, Tuesday (7/21).

Purwati explained that her party, together with the South Jakarta Environmental Sub-agency, continues to conduct socialization and provide education to residents regarding the creation of simple waste management facilities in their home environment.

Residents can use used items such as gallon jugs and buckets as a medium for managing organic waste.

"This simple step is expected to reduce the volume of waste disposed of in landfills," she explained.

Meanwhile, one of the local residents, Ratmah admitted that she has implemented waste sorting in accordance with government guidelines. Organic waste is processed through biopore holes, while inorganic waste is collected and then weighed at a waste bank.

"I've been running it for a month. Weighed waste can generate income, while waste placed in biopores can later be used as fertilizer," she admitted.
