Rano Urges Jakarta Scouts to Be Active in Waste Sorting Movement

The Jakarta Vice Governor, Rano Karno, was officially inaugurated as the Chairperson of the Regional Quarter (Kwarda) of the Jakarta Scout Movement for the 2024–2029 Period at the Jakarta Scout Movement Kwarda Building, Jalan Pangeran Diponegoro, Menteng, Central Jakarta, Saturday (7/25).
Active role in the Waste Sorting
After being inaugurated, Rano closed the 2026 Extraordinary Meeting of the Jakarta Scout Movement Regional Quarter Council. He emphasized his commitment to continuing the 2024–2029 Jakarta Scout Movement Regional Quarter Council Work Plan with a number of program accelerations so that all targets can be achieved by the end of his term of office.
Jakarta Steps Up Food Waste PreventionRano admitted to having studied the results of the 14th Regional Conference, the 2024–2029 Regional Scout Movement Work Plan, the Jakarta Scouts' annual report, and digital literacy activities displayed on various social media platforms.
"I want us to continue our Work Plan, by implementing an acceleration program so that at the end of our term of office, all of this can be achieved," Rano said.
Rano emphasized that Jakarta Scouts must be a key part of the government's program to improve community welfare.
According to him, the Scout Care Program needs to be a primary concern, including active involvement in the Waste Sorting and Processing Movement from Source through collaboration with the Environmental Agency and the City Parks and Forestry Agency as an implementation of Governor's Instruction Number 5 of 2026.
"Jakarta Scouts must play an active role in the Waste Sorting and Processing Movement from the Source," he added.
Rano also asked the Scout Movement to take a pioneering role in preventing bullying, drug abuse, and improving the safety of drug and food consumption.
"I want Jakarta Scouts to be a 'big brother' to their friends, to be a pioneer in preventing bullying and drug abuse, as well as securing drug and food consumption in the community," he continued.
He also emphasized the importance of the role of Scouts in supporting the realization of Jakarta as a Global and Cultured City through the preservation of Betawi culture involving the Education Agency, Culture Agency, and Tourism Agency.
"Jakarta Scouts must be a key part in realizing a Global and Cultured City, with Betawi Culture as a local identity as well as a tourism magnet that represents the global city of Jakarta," he stated.
Rano also reminded the importance of disaster preparedness through synergy between various Work Units (Saka).
He also expressed his appreciation to the Youth and Sports Agency, the Education Agency, and the Jakarta Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs for their support for scouting education, which is considered to have contributed to increasing the Youth Development Index and character building of the younger generation.
"In Jakarta, we implement the goals of the Scout Movement through the Urban Scouting Program. We build Jakarta together as a cultured global city," he appealed.
