Commission A Requests Strengthened Apparatuses Synergy to Prevent Brawls

Chairman of Commission A of the Jakarta Regional People's Representative Council (DPRD), Inggard Joshua, asked all elements of government and security forces to strengthen synergy to prevent a recurrence of brawls, such as those that occurred in the Matraman area, East Jakarta.

All these elements must be synergized

He said that conflict prevention efforts cannot rely solely on the police. All elements, from neighborhood association (RT/RW) administrators, the Community Early Warning Forum (FKDM), community police officers (Bhabinkamtibmas), urban village heads, Babinsa, and district heads, must work in an integrated manner to detect potential security disturbances in their areas.

"All these elements must be synergized. We must not let an incident like this happen again," he said, Tuesday (7/28).

He also highlighted on the grant provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government to the Regional Leadership Coordination Forum (Forkopimda). He stated that this support must be accompanied by strengthened oversight at the regional level so that authorities can optimally carry out their prevention functions.

Inggard also urged increased monitoring of newcomers and groups that could potentially incite conflict. He assessed that coordination between authorities and neighborhood administrators needed to be strengthened through resident data collection and more intensive communication with neighborhood associations (RT) and community units (RW).

With this step, he hopes, the potential for brawls can be detected and prevented early on.

Meanwhile, Inggard urged law enforcement to take firm action against the perpetrators carrying sharp weapons during the Mataraman brawl. He stated that carrying sharp weapons is a violation of the law that must be prosecuted, even if it has not resulted in any casualties.

He also hopes the police will enforce the law firmly and, if necessary, strengthen coordination with the Indonesian National Armed Forces (TNI) to ensure more effective efforts to maintain public order and security.

"Legal authorities must take firm action against such incidents," he stated.
