12,254 Trees in East Jakarta Pruned for Storm Safety

The East Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency has pruned over 12,000 vulnerable trees during the first seven months of 2026 to ensure public safety.

This pruning aims to minimize the risk of trees falling or branches snapping

East Jakarta Parks and City Forest Sub-agency Head, Dwi Ponangsera, explained that the tree-maintenance efforts were triggered by resident reports and proactive sweeps by his task force.

"This pruning aims to minimize the risk of trees falling or branches snapping during heavy rain and strong winds," she expressed, Thursday (7/30).

Trees Prone to Falling in Kebayoran Lama Completely Pruned

Of the 12,254 trees, she explained, 164 underwent heavy pruning, 9,371 were moderately pruned, 676 received light pruning, and 603 trees were cut down.

Besides preventing incidents of falling trees, this tree pruning aims to enhance urban aesthetics and improve street lighting.

This is because overgrown foliage can obstruct street lamps, reducing their effectiveness at night.
