South Jakarta Mayor Firmanuddin Ibrahim lauded the initiative, which serves as a dedicated space for children’s development and a catalyst to foster a passion for reading through various media.
"While we recognize the rapid growth of the digital era, instilling the habit of traditional, direct reading remains essential. Hope this facility provides immense benefits and broadens the horizons of our children," he expressed, Wednesday (8/5).

"We are going to make every effort to scale this up. Despite this is the only one for now, we hope to secure more support through future corporate social responsibility (CSR) programs and other strategic alliances," he explained.
Jakarta Empowerment, Child Protection, and Population Control Agency (PPAPP) Head, Dwi Oktavia noted that children today are growing up as digital natives, where technology has become an integral and inseparable part of their daily lives.
"While technology opens up vast opportunities for learning, creativity, and self-development, we also face significant challenges. These range from cyberbullying and exposure to age-inappropriate content to excessive screen time, which can adversely affect a child’s growth and development," she explained.
She expressed her vision for the LapakMain Corner—a collaborative project with Bukalapak.com—to be more than just a playground. Instead, it is designed as a creative sanctuary that introduces age-appropriate digital literacy and fosters a genuine interest in reading.
This initiative directly addresses the challenge of low literacy rates among children, while also aiming to spark imagination and strengthen social bonds.
"We must ensure that children do not become so deeply immersed in the digital world that they neglect face-to-face interaction with their peers," she emphasized.
She urged all stakeholders—including parents, community volunteers, school representatives, residents, and the private sector—to work together in mentoring children to use technology wisely.
"Let us empower Jakarta’s future generation to think critically, act ethically, and remain engaged in positive activities. I hope this initiative serves as a model for sustainable collaboration and inspires the creation of similar spaces across all RPTRAs in Jakarta," she concluded.
Bukalapak’s Acting CEO, Natalia Firmansyah, highlighted the LapakMain Corner as a testament to the government’s resolve in fostering a secure digital landscape for children.
According to her, the benefits of digital transformation come with a unique set of risks.
She argued, protecting children requires a dual approach: robust regulation of digital platforms combined with the creation of safe havens for interactive growth.
"LapakMain Corner is the result of a joint effort between Bukalapak, Multi Realms Games (MRG), and Lapak Gaming. We want to provide a space where children can grow creatively, equipped with educational tools and digital literacy in a fun, child-friendly atmosphere," she stated.
Natalia hoped that this facility would complement a healthy ecosystem for children and serve as a prime example of public-private partnership in creating public spaces that provide tangible benefits for Indonesian families.
