Legislators Push to Fast-Track Jakarta’s School Revitalization Projects

Jakarta City Council Commission E Chairman, M. Subki has called on the Jakarta Education Agency to accelerate school building revitalizations, complete stalled construction projects, and ensure the optimal implementation of the free private school program.

These remarks were made during a Budget Committee (Banggar) meeting with the Regional Government Budget Team (TAPD) to discuss the 2027 Budget Policy and Priorities (KUA-PPAS).
"Commission E also emphasizes the need for transparency in distributing education aid, including the redemption of graduation certificates through collaboration with Baznas Bazis Jakarta," he expressed, at City Council Building, Thursday (8/6).
Two Island Schools Set for Total Renovation This August 2026In the health sector, the council recommended accelerating the construction and rehabilitation of community health centers (Puskesmas) and regional hospitals, specifically highlighting the completion of the Cakung RSUD multi-year project.
"We're calling for a transparent financing scheme, utilizing either the City Budget (APBD) or municipal bonds, to ensure that these developments do not jeopardize the city's financial stability," Subki explained.
Aside that, the council is pushing for a dedicated budget for salary adjustments for non-civil servant healthcare workers. Other priorities include strengthening promotive and preventive health programs, enhancing mental health services, and ensuring that the introduction of executive clinics in regional hospitals does not compromise the quality of care for BPJS Kesehatan participants.
In the social sector, his party has requested the Social Agency to update beneficiary data with high accuracy and transparency, ensuring it aligns with the community's welfare deciles.
The agency is also urged to expedite the implementing regulations for the Disability Regional Law, expand services for the elderly and people with disabilities, and tighten oversight to eliminate illegal levies in aid distribution.
Regarding youth and sports, the commission proposed an increased budget for the rehabilitation of sports facilities. This move is intended to prepare Jakarta as a supporting host for the 2028 National Sports Week (PON).
"We're also calling for the accelerated renovation of sports centers (GOR), the provision of neighborhood-level sports facilities, and the utilization of non-budgetary funding through CSR and sponsorships," Subki added.
In the cultural sector, his party highlighted the urgency of preserving Betawi culture through museum revitalization, the maintenance of heritage sites, the empowerment of local art studios, and the rehabilitation of Arts and Culture Training Centers (PPSB) across five city regions. Further, Commission E encouraged the development of a culture-based creative economy and closer collaboration with the central government to host international-scale events.
"We also urge the Jakarta government to prepare innovative financing schemes to mitigate potential cash flow constraints resulting from the decline in Revenue Sharing Funds (DBH)," Subki concluded.
