Water Resources Agency Directed to Monitor Muara Baru Sea Wall

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has instructed the Water Resources Agency to maintain close monitoring of the sea wall in Muara Baru, North Jakarta, following reports of seawater seepage.

It is true that some seepage has been detected

He emphasized the importance of preventing recurring leaks to ensure the safety of the surrounding area.

"I will ask the Water Resources Agency to check and monitor the Muara Baru Sea Wall to ensure that previous incidents do not happen again," Pramono stated, at Jakarta City Hall, Thursday (8/6).

He confirmed that seawater seepage had indeed occurred at the site. However, he assessed that the current situation should not cause undue alarm, as the intensity of the leaks remains minor.

"Thankfully, according to the reports we received, it is not something that warrants excessive concern. But it is true that some seepage has been detected," he explained.

Pramono explained that the seawall was caused by high sea levels, which triggered tidal flooding (locally known as rob). However, he noted that the sea level has since begun to recede.

"Over the past few days, we experienced tidal flooding that caused the water level to rise. But if you look at the situation today, the levels have actually subsided," he stated.
