Budget Shrink, Jakarta Council Demands Zero Cuts for Health and Education in 2026

The Jakarta Legislative Council (DPRD)'s Budget Committee (Banggar), alongside the Local Government Budget Team (TAPD), has begun deliberating the Revised General Budget Policies and Provisional Budget Ceiling (KUA-PPAS) for the 2026 fiscal year.

DPRD Chairman Suhud Alynudin revealed a downward adjustment in the revised 2026 budget proposal. The budget, originally set at Rp 81.3 trillion, has been trimmed to Rp 79.58 trillion.
The revised structure includes a projected regional revenue by Rp 69.34 trillion and regional expenditure by Rp 75.28 trillion. Additionally, financing receipts are estimated at Rp 10.24 trillion, with financing expenditures at Rp 4.30 trillion.

He noted that these sessions are expected to generate vital recommendations and proposals for programs slated for implementation through the end of 2026.
"We hope the commissions will provide strategic input regarding the initiatives to be carried out until late 2026," he added.
He hoped that the budget reduction in the 2026 Revised Budget would not compromise essential public services.
Suhud insisted that education, healthcare, and social protection programs must remain top priorities and be shielded from any funding cuts.
"Regarding the fundamental needs of our residents—particularly in education, health, and social safety nets—we expect no reductions in welfare programs," he asserted.
